Robinson R22

Our Robinson R22 is perfect for beginners and one of the Worlds most recognised training helicopters. The R22 is a two-bladed, single-engine, light utility helicopter. The 70’s is often described as the decade style forgot, but not in this case, this sensitive, two-seater helicopter was designed in 1973 and has been in production ever since. Do not be fooled, this is by no means ‘old’ technology. The R22 remains a capable, highly manoeuvrable aircraft, which is fun to fly, a record other helicopters manufacturers have struggled to match. Last but by no means least the R22 it’s our most cost effective aircraft for flight training with students getting more flying time for their money.

Robinson R44

Based on its little brother the R22, the R44 is a four-seater, single-engine training helicopter. In production since 1990 this stunning aircraft was an 80’s invention and as such is unsurprisingly an absolute joy to fly. Since then the R44 has become the world’s most popular helicopter. With space for 4, this helicopter is smooth, fast and stable, with an excellent safety record. It’s great for trips with friends and family or hops across the channel.

Guimbal Cabri G2

The Guimbal Cabri G2 is a helicopter for the 21st century! This helicopter is a two-seater, light piston-engine helicopter designed by a former Eurocopter engineer. The Cabri G2 boasts a three-bladed, fully articulated main rotor and fenestron-type tail rotor. Its sleek styling and modern looks really makes it a supermodel of the helicopter world. This state-of-the-art, fast heli features a sophisticated glass cockpit and even an alarm and central-locking!

B206 Jet Ranger

The Bell 206 is a two-bladed, single engine, archetypal helicopter. Originally developed for the United States Army in 1962, this light utility aircraft is rugged and reliable. Although not called up for service, the B206 or Jet Ranger shifted into the private/commercial market due to its luxurious ride and fabulous safety record. The 60s produced many national treasures (The Beatles, the mini cooper, Julie Andrews) and the Jet Ranger is no exception and as seen on screen this 5 seater rotorcraft is synonymous with style and even today remains the world’s most popular turbine helicopter.

The LAPL(H) is a ‘Light Aircraft Pilot’s License’. The LAPL(H) programme requires a minimum of 40* hours flight training, 10 hours solo to include 5 hours cross-country. A 80 nautical mile qualifying cross-country landing away at at least 1 aerodrome other than departure, plus all the usual Ground School, written and radio exams and final skills test. Night ratings and IMC ratings can also be added to your LAPL(H). Ground School

Ground school is a requirement of the PPL(H) training where a recommended minimum of 100 hours theory is needed to alongside your flying time to complete your training. Study time can be split between home and the classroom, but we have found that by running our own ground school it gives students the opportunity to learn alongside others, making studying not quite such a solitary task.

Run fortnightly, our in-house ground school will allow you to go through the required elements of the theoretical side of the PPL(H) with your fellow students. It’s a great opportunity to ask your instructor/CFI any questions you may have about the course or exams, meet with previous students now qualified pilots who can act as mentors; to guide, support and encourage you as you progress through your PPL(H) course. The mentoring scheme is unique to Flying Pig Helicopters, many lifelong friendships and business relationships have been cemented by this rewarding and worthwhile experience.
