Our Flying Family Has a New Operations Assistant! Meet Sarah McKenzie…

For me, there was never really a choice between helicopters and fixed wing. As far as I’m concerned, there is just no comparison. Coming from an emergency services background, I’ve had the opportunity to witness helicopters in search and rescue situations and was always interested in the complexity of flying them and how easy the pilots made it look.

I had never really taken the opportunity to explore a career in aviation until I was lucky enough to be able to do a 120 minute trial introductory flight in the Robinson R22 in Australia in 2016, which sealed the deal for me so to speak.

At this point, I commenced my CPL(H) training and started flying regularly with a flight school in Sydney in between my shifts as a Police Officer. Flying in Australia in Summer can certainly present some challenges, with outside air temperatures often exceeding 35 degrees Celsius and temperatures within the cabin reaching temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

I accrued approximately 85 hours of flight time in the R22 in Australia before making the decision to move to the UK with my family. I planned on continuing my flying in the UK in order to gain my PPL(H) here, but in the meantime, was lucky enough to secure a job as Operations Assistant at Flying Pig & Elstree Helicopters, which I couldn’t be happier about.

I’m looking forward to continuing my PPL(H) journey with Flying Pig & Elstree Helicopters and hopefully in the not too distant future, I will gain my PPL(H) in the UK. In my short time at Flying Pig & Elstree Helicopters, I’ve found that they are a flight school that genuinely care about their students and they go the extra mile to ensure everyone that walks through the door has an enjoyable experience, whether it be a budding new pilot looking to start their PPL(H), or a customer on a voucher experience.
