New skills and sightseeing thrills – Learn to fly the London Heli-Lanes
After you gain your license, you may be looking for a new challenge and flying the Heli-Lanes through London may provide you just that. You can fly through the centre of London, in a single engine helicopter enjoying the views of Canary Wharf, the London Eye, Tower and Vauxhall Bridge and of course the River Thames.
The London Heli Lanes is a very complex and involved flight, so if you want to tackle them we wait until after you have your PPL (H) to introduce you. Before the flight you will receive a full briefing by an experienced instructor which will cover procedures, radiotelephony and routes, as well as introducing you to the chart that will assist you on navigating your way through London and how to enter and exit.
During the flight you will contact many different ATC units, and this is a great chance to exercise your radio skills in Controlled Airspace. The views are truly amazing and you will hopefully glimpse all the London landmarks; however the pilot workload can be very high and it is important that you are paying attention to the airspace around you and instructions given to you by ATC.
We aim to provide you with the knowledge you need to fly through London safely, so once you have completed your first flight, we recommend flying through a couple more times with an instructor on board before tackling it alone.
Once you are confident with flying in London, you will be eager to take your friends and family along for the ride!
